17 villagers enjoyed the Bird Walk on the 12th April. Our guide for the morning was Adrian State, a well-known bird lover with a wealth of knowledge. During the walk, a total of 19 species of birds were seen or heard, including skylarks, swallows, dunnocks, chiffchaffs, a pied wagtail & several buzzards & red kites soaring on the thermals. Adrain told us that in the UK in the 1980s, there were only a few pairs of breeding red kites left in Wales, but in 1990 a red kite reintroduction started, with 2 Welsh birds & 11 Spanish birds released in the Chiltern Hills. The kites started breeding & further releases in England have helped facilitate a fantastic population recovery, with approximately 6,000 breeding pairs now in the UK.
